  • Purchase property in Turkey - Made Easy
    Turkey has made major changes to laws governing the sale of real estate to foreigners this year. The changes make it easier for foreigners to purchase property in Turkey, and are expected to attract a massive amount of investment to the country, despite concerns that a bubble is being created. In 2011, property sales to foreigners were about $2 billion, a decline from the $2.5 billion the year before.

  • Turkey says to connect Black Sea with Mediterranean Sea in next five years
    Turkey's Minister of Transportation, Maritime Affairs, and Communications, Binali Yildirim on Sunday said that they would connect the Black Sea with the Mediterranean Sea by building new highways in the next five years. Speaking at a groundbreaking ceremony for the Ovit tunnel and connecting roads in Sivrikaya village of Ikizdere town in the north-eastern Rize province on Sunday, Minister Yildirim said that today was a very special day, in fact a feast, at the Ovit Mountain.

  • Turkey receives int'l direct investments worth 2.8 bln USD
    Turkey received international direct investments worth 2.8 billion USD in March. In a written statement released on Saturday, Turkey's Economy Minister Zafer Caglayan said that international direct investments in Turkey in the first quarter of 2012 were up 8.2 percent when compared to the same term in 2011 and reached a figure of 4.6 billion USD.

  • Afghan doctors to receive training in Turkey
    Afghan medical doctors and staff members will receive training in the south-eastern province of Malatya upon a protocol signed by the Afghan Ministry of Health and the Inonu University. Speaking to the Anadolu Agency (AA), the Dean of the Medical Faculty at the Inonu University, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kizilay, said that they would provide training to 49 Afghan health personnel, including 13 doctors.

  • 4 million Internet users switch to ‘safe Internet'
    Four million Internet users have started to use an optional Internet safety scheme adopted by the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) to protect children and young people from harmful content on the Internet since it became available in November 2011. Speaking at a meeting held by the Turkish Informatics Industry Association (TUBISAD) on Thursday, BTK Director Tayfun Acarer said that 4 million Turkish Internet users had started to use the new Internet filtering system, which started operating on Nov. 22, 2011.

  • Turkey Adopts Legislation Raising Extent Of Land Foreigners Can Buy
    The Turkish Parliament on Thursday passed a bill raising the limit from 2.5 to 30 hectares land that foreigners can buy in Turkey. The new law, which was discussed and approved in the Parliament, amends title deed laws and changes the current reciprocity requirement, which dictates that citizens of 89 countries currently do not have the right to own property in Turkey because Turkish nationals are not entitled to own property in those countries. Among these countries are Russia, the Gulf States and the Turkic republics of Central Asia.

  • Turkey extends visa-free travel for Russians
    Turkey has increased visa-free visits from 30 days to 60 days for Russian citizens, according to an announcement published in the Official Gazette on Friday. On April 17 2011, visa-free travel for 30 days between Russia and Turkey came into effect, marking a historic cornerstone in the Russian-Turkish relationship, as people from both nations for the first time were able to cross their respective borders without needing a visa.

  • Turkey, Ukraine sign protocol for economic cooperation
    Turkey and Ukraine signed on Friday a protocol to deepen cooperation between the countries in economy and trade. The protocol was signed by Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan and his Ukrainian counterpart Sergei Tigipko after the eighth term meeting of Turkey-Ukraine Trade and Economic Cooperation Committee in capital Kiev.

  • Turkey secures 72-strong team for London olympic games
    At least 72 Turkish athletes have qualified so far to compete in the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London, achieving the highest number ever in the Turkish sports history. "We have reached the number of 72 in the olympic quota and this is an all-time high for Turkey," Youth and Sports Minister Suat Kilic told the Anadolu Agency.
